Ok, I'd like to propose a challenge. I'm going to come up with a problem with a crime scene and would like to see how you guys would get the evidence. After that you guys come up with a problem and the next person comes up with an answer, etc. For example... There is a car that has been wiped down, where would YOU most likely look for fingerprints? My answer would be on the underside of any switches (such as those for automatic windows).

Ok, My problem: It's been snowing, there is a footprint in the snow that is from a suspected murderer, but if you don't move quickly, you may lose it. Regular footprint moulds won't work due to the temperature and the fact that their chemical composition will be changed too much by the snow melting if used.

The challenge: How would you lift a mould?

    -----
I'm looking for a specific answer. It's an actual process used in very snowy countries and regions of America and one that I was (pleasantly) surprised by when I found that it works.

two people drive with their car through a very lonely area. it starts getting dark and soon it starts snowing. They descide to stop along the way and wait till morning. There is a lot more snow coming down then expected and they turn the engine on to keep themselves warm. In the morning the car (totally covered in snow) is found, and the two people inside died. There are no traces of forced entry or external wounds.
    how did they die?

Carbon monoxide poisoning. It's obvious because the windows are not rolled down. I also forfeit my turn because I'm not good at this.

A hunter leaves his hut and walks 10 miles due south to check some traps, he then walks due east for 4 miles to his next set of traps, fnally it's getting dark so he heads due north returning to his hut, as he arrives back a bear attacks and kills him.

What color bear did the investigating team decide to hunt down?

...Black? As you did not mention any signs of struggle or similar sign that he even SAW the bear, considering it was night the logical conclusion is that the bear is black. Thus hard to see.

His hut has to be at the north pole, otherwise his route would not have taken him back to his hut. Hence, a white polar bear.

Even if it was, that route would not take him directly back.

It would, if his hut was at the north pole. Think about it.

You're most certainly thinking about those "due" directions in a different manner. I'm thinking in terms of absolutes (as they should be), not directions that depend upon the earths curvature. In that sense then yes, it would lead back to the hut. My objection is that it shouldn't be that way.

What do you mean absolutes? Look at an earth globe. Standing on the north pole, you can only walk south. West and East are always along the parallels. North and South are always along the longitudinal lines.

two old men sit at a table and eat dinner. they both have exactly the same cup, and drink. One drinks slowly, and the other drinks fast. One dies. Who and Why?

I don't know by the way. my friend stumped me on this one a while ago. Maybe I'm stupid.

They are both drinking poison. The one drinking fast gets enough poison in his system to kill him while the other one is still drinking. :?

O thats better but I thin the one who drinks quickly will react violently vomit and survive whereas the one who drinks slowly will absorb the poison and die (just for a bit of variety of ideas!)

and the mystery continues... (I was told that there was no poison, and that the fact that they were old was a key point)

This one I know. A man was found in the middle of a desert with a broken match in his hand. The mach was not lit. there is a line of cloths leading up to him from quite a distance away. he is naked. how did he die?

Dehydration? Sunburn? Both? If he's in a desert there are a large number of potential ways he could die, although perhaps the match is related to one I don't know of. Bitten by something poisonous and made delerious perhaps? A scorpion? Am I getting warm? :?

    Am I getting warm?
Perhaps that is what he tried. Deserts get pretty bloody cold at night. Maybe he died trying to light some clothes on fire to keep warm during a cold desert night? :?

then they would be in a pile, not in a line. Unless he suffered from that one hypothermia induced problem where you undress yourself.

Maybe he tried to get the attention of an airplane by lighting the line. If it's a pile people in the airplain may think it's just someone making a campfire.

there were three people riding in a hot air balloon. over the desert, the balloon starts to come closer to the ground, because of the hotter surrounding atmosphere. They empty everything they can to lighten the load, even throwing their cloths overboard. Finally, they chose to draw sticks to see who sacrifices themselves for the rest. He drew the short match.
