This may seem like a stupid question, but, where can I download a very high level virus? There is an old computer that I want to destroy; it barely works and can't run anything anymore. I just want to see what the effects would be.

Why don't you just sell it? there are a large number of people in the market for older computers. For a variety of reasons.
I can't see why someone would want an old crappy computer. Right now its just rusting in my basement.
I also actually tried to download a virus by searching google for a couple of hours to see if I could download something bad, but either nothing happened, or my anti-virus destroyed it-and the point is to watch it defeat my anti-virus and eliminate the computer.
Another reason to do this is because I have the same (powerful) anti-virus software on my old and new computer; It would be useful to see if my new computer is at risk, hence seeing if a high level virus can bi-pass the old ones defenses.
TONS of people collect old hardware. Either for the sake of collecting, or upgrading another old machine they have. there are thousands of reasons. Just because you can't think of it doesn't mean people don't do it.
Trying to find or download a virus is something you will have to do on your own, offering advice or giving information on how to do this or attempting to help somebody do such things may be against the law in some countries. Any post which contains such information is likely to be deleted without explanation and possibly result in further action. As Jeremy says try and sell it or find some other way to destroy it.
Why don't you go on something like Deleted and look for something cracked. There will always be viruses there, you could for a laugh download several ones and see what the viruses would do to the computer. It may be a laugh :-DOriginally Posted by Megabrain
Activly seeking a virus is a bad idea. Full stop. not only would you potentially download somthing to damage your current model, but also leave your connection open to exploit by the person behind the virus/download link.
Sell it, destroy it because if its as useless as you say it is, any modern virus you are likely to infect your current model with by downloading it would probably try to attack XP or vista, not windows NT or 95. (for example only, if you have a mac... its probably indestructable!)

I can see that you were just helping, but megabrain did give a warning not to post any information on how to do this. thats all.
He said 'may' not will. Look someone asked for help in going about something, I granted that. What he does with the information is his prerogative. You can't blame Einstein for the creation of the atomic bomb.Originally Posted by goodgod3rd

i was just saying is all.
I know I know. What he does with my knowledge is his calling card not mine, but I fully understand what your saying, thank you.Originally Posted by goodgod3rd
