    Hi guys---

I was wondering if you smart people could explain to me what's wrong with my dual monitor setup.

I got a new computer in my office, and scrounged a spare LCD monitor from my old machine. The computer guy hooked up a dual monitor setup for me, and it's great. But the problem is I can't drag windows from one desktop to the other. The mouse moves around just fine, and I can drag and drop icons at will.

    Any ideas?

Try right-clicking anywhere on your desktop and go to "properties"

This will bring up the "Display Properties" window. Click on the "Settings" tab.

You should be able to see your two monitors there....and be able to adjust the orintation and size of the screens. Make sure the "extend my windows desktop on this monitor" option is checked. You might want to check to make sure all the right drivers for the video card are loaded also.

Let me know how it goes

I dont think linux takes the Windows route in terms of setting up your dispay... I know in my linux build supporting my laptop and an external monitor has been tricky... What you need to do is re-configure your
    Code:
    xorg.conf
file, now theres an automatic configuration script for this erm if you've got an ATI card type:
    Code:
    aticonfig
in your shell, set up the dual monitors and re-boot X using
    Code:
    Ctrl-Alt-Bckpsc
if not i've had a quick look around and http://notes.minty.org/cgi-bin/wiki...._Configuration << that bad boy might bring you closer to the answer...

But the end of it is, something is wrong with your config files for X

    Hope this helps

    Try typing

    :\run.command_fix{dconfig.disp}..

    Then

    :\run.command_sort.out_my/bloody/monitor_problem.NOW
