I am changing my major to CS but my adviser suggested CIS as well. I'm more interested in programing and computer software engineering so I'm thinking I should just stick with CS.

I'm just curious as to who on here is a CS or CIS major and why you chose that major over the other. Also, my adviser was saying a lot of CS jobs are being outsourced which wasn't very pleasing. Which do you guys think will be more marketable in the future? Thanks

CS CIS ? these may not be the same as the terms used in other countries so by not explaining them you are restricting replies to perhaps your fellow countrymen - just a thought especially since this is a world-wide forum.

My personal advice would be if you are going into any subject then grab as much as you can comfortably learn - the wider your knowledge field the more jobs you will be able to choose from, it also will show any prospective employer that you are versatile, remember the dinosaurs? - they failed to adapt to rapidly changing conditions. Apart from that, the education systemm I went through [where the blackboard was the wall of our cave  ] has long since gone.

^thanks for the advice. I plan on learning as much as I can. I've always been really interested in computer science but never got into it because I thought mechanical engineering would be my thing but it's not for me. I wish I would have taken some classes in high school for it though.

If you do a full course in electrical engineering then mechanics is only a 'top-up' afterwards as the electronics part is almost exclusively maths, the same maths used in mech and other subjects.

Is that about what your course will be?
