Help! Once upon a time recently, I googled something and clicked on a link, and now my Google-based ads are of bald kids staring at me. How do I get rid of them? I'd gladly go back to seeing Capella University ads all over the place — at least they don't stare at me. I've tried changing my Google settings, and repeatedly googling Capella University and clicking on their links. This has become very bizarre and irritating. Thanks.

I accidentally did something along the lines of Flick's suggestion - but useful.

I was looking for towels and related bathroom accessories for a gift, and had a lot of trouble finding something that was really suitable. I was also casually looking for a good price on a largish garden shed. Now when I visit one particular site which spends a lot of time debunking various ideas, instead of getting ads based on the irony-deficient google bot latching onto "key" words I get them based on my own searching. So the healing crystals and bible studies and the like have been replaced by sheds and bathrooms. And they are really easy to ignore.

Actually, I'm thinking maybe the entity behind the bald, staring kids pays Google to override other sites that I might google more recently or more often. I won't say the name of the site because someone will google it and end up with bald kids staring at them ... and blame me! It's evil, I tell you!

    HELP!!!

If it makes you feel better, my day is usually spoiled by endless ads of Mike Chang and his perfect abs and the fact that without flawless physique no woman will ever truly love me.If you DO figure out how to manipulate their ads, share the knowledge.

Get a spyware program like Malware bytes or super anti-spyware and get rid of your adware cookies. That's what google uses to select ads for you.

Just 2 days ago, I read on my free Metro paper to work, about a new search site gaining popularity as an alternative to Google and it’s called: https://duckduckgo.com

What’s apparently different about it to other search sites like Google is that “it doesn’t store cookies or IP addresses and it doesn’t save searches. In other words, it doesn’t track the online moves of its users, a trait of Google’s business model.

    Here's online article:
DuckDuckGo, the anti-Google that doesn't track you when searching | Metro News

So maybe this will help you? Personally I’m not bothered about ads myself, but I’ll probably be trying it out myself.

I like that the ads are often for things I already purchased.

For instance, I bought a new microphone for my computer and for the next month they spammed me with ads for something I no longer wanted. Nice job, marketing department!
