    Hi everyone!

I was hoping to engage someone in a discussion about Clinical Informatics from the perspective of the standard issue IT professional. I have no background in medicine whatsoever but I have been in the IT field for several years with a decent amount of exposure to various IT disciplines therein. I have read plenty of college websites that have given Clinical Informatics a broad, cryptic definition about how this field aims to design and implement custom health care systems but have yet to find anything that says HOW they plan to accomplish this.

So, coming from the perspective of someone that has a traditional background in Information Systems, does anyone know if Clinical Informaticists will become programmers that will be actually creating their own product and/or support the product from a quality assurance point of view? Any input would be great!
