Thread: alternative for a command

    Hello;
    I am using linux in my college. I use a command cc in the terminal to open a c program file. I use a red hat version 6 operating system at home. but when i put cc in the terminal to open a file it says command not found. how should i open the file. Please help. Thank you in advance.

    When you say "open a c program file" do you mean compile (cc is usually the C compiler) or open for editing?

    The C compiler on Red Hat is normally gcc. If that is not already isnatlled then you need to iuse the Red Hat package manager to install it. I am not very familiar with Red Hat but this might help: Download or install C, C++ compiler on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL)

    So for that you need gcc.

    even the gcc command is not working it says command not found..!!
