hi all, i bought a new pc and wanted to install my win xp pro on it. but w/e it get's to installing the devices i get a E:/I386/asms error, followed by a blue screen.

i have tried several things: control.man is not the problem, switched to an older dvd drive did nothing, shift+F10 didn't help, copying win xp to pc burning a new copy didn't help ... i just don't know what to do anymore.

my last hope was disabling sata in bios, which also did nothing. any advice? and in simple words if possible.

    thanks

Does this help: "The file 'Asms' on Windows XP Professional CD-ROM is needed" error message when you install Windows XP ?

    Or this: [Solved] ASMS Fatal Error? - Windows-XP-General-Discussion - Windows-XP ?

The short answer is, you may be unable to easily or fully install XP on a new PC. The hardware is geared toward Windows 7 or 8 and the device drivers carried are for 7 or 8.
I had the same problem with my sons tower where I downgraded to XP in order to get his PC to stop being a jerk. I had to disable the hardware, install XP, then find the individual drivers for each.

You'll enjoy Win 7, it is just an upgraded Win XP, smoother and less problems.

Win XP is sunsetting in a couple of months too, Microsoft is dropping support for it so you will no longer get any updates for it. Windows 7 is not bad at all, and it will work with the newer hardware.
