Is it possible for a artificial intelligence system if made to make new scientific systems? If so, what projects should I read about?

Genetic programming is what I looked for.

Not very clear what you are asking. Are you asking if an AI can come up with new scientific discoveries, or are you asking whether an AI can be based on alternative or new concepts?

Obviously I can't prove AI will produce new scientific discoveries, but I do believe this will happen.
I am not prepared to give even an approximate date!

Would an AI believe it has a soul and would it frightened of dying, would it want to reproduce? If it's capable of independant learning it would very difficult to predict how or what it would do other than it's orginal programming.

I don;t think that it would be frightened of dying, or want to reproduce, because such things are hardwired into our brains to ensure the survival of our species.

    I agree,
An A.I. system can easily be achieved which can be hardwired to just learn, imagine, but not think about death as its programming does not allow it to.
