Since there are plenty of alternatives (starting with bing), if google were to try to charge, people would use something else. Right now all the search engines make their money from ads, and presumably will keep doing so.
I hate Bing, since it is biased toward commercial sites. So I never use it. I use Norton Search 95% of the time.
Google will remain dominant in the same way that General Motors remained dominant in the auto industry, or the UK dominated world trade, or Cliff Richard always got the Christmas #1. (For non-UK savvy members - you are lucky.)
Toyota has regained the lead as #1 car company this quarter![]()
The US has to contend with Al Jarreau. I think they have the short end of it.
Is this it though, will it end with the search engine or will something better come along to replace it?
You'll have a search-engine that is soo smart it sounded like a human.
Watch "Watson" beat humans in a game of "What Is?"! (IBM's Watson supercomputer destroys all humans in Jeopardy - YouTube)
"Watson" is made by IBM.
Bing seems to give me mostly useless links compared to google--perhaps it is Googles ability to adaptive to the searcher. But even Google leaves a lot to be desired and none of the engines are good at imagery or audio file searches yet.
In my experience, Bing is a sales tool. It assumes you want to part with some of your money to buy something, so it is biased in that direction. That's why I don't use it, since I search for information, not stuff to buy.
Surely Bing is just an interesting little diversion, not really in the same league is Google, I mean can anyone really believe it will still be around in 5 years time, most unlikely, where everybody knows google still will be.
Oh, Bing will be still there. It's Microsoft's baby.
Google's patent will expire after 7 years (if they have any), and afterward it will became free for everyone (including Microsoft) to reproduce and sell their search-engine. Google has patent for their search-algorithm.
(but that doesn't mean Google will be out of business... Google also make other stuff too! Like Android, self-driving car, renewable energy, host scientific lecture, Youtube, ect!)
Hi everyone,
about Google I do love the Maps. It's unbeatable. And, do doubt it will be.
Steve
We (a.k.a HUMANS) are accustomed to free search in such a way that in no case are we going to opt for paid search. If google goes for paid services, all its users will go to other search engines.
I am sure the google people know this, and will not dare to step into paid.
The only chance for any search engine to go to paid is that they have gone nuts or all owners of search engines signed a pact to go to paid services ( Something like " We all should change to paid, people will then be forced to pay If they want a search engine")

About switching to other search engines : Google is far good than any other search engine so most people should continue using google <: My opinion <:
