Thread: Need help in choosing.

Hi, Im a degree student majoring in pure CS. Im torn between choosing Image Processing and Algorithm Analysis and Design for my elective. Can you guys help me choose by laying out the pros and cons of each subjects?

Well, Image Processing is quite a simple subject. It gives you an overview of standard image processing algorithms. You need to know some math (namely geometry and linear algebra, but very basics of 'em, so never mind).

Algorithm Analysis and Design gives you much more fundamental knowledge. It should include an overview of fundamental algorithms like knapsack problem, TSP and so on. Some of the algorithms are very well applicable in real life coding.

So if you want to go the easiest way choose Image Processing. If you want to listen for something informative choose Algorithm Analysis and Design.

I've attended both this year and found both quite interesting.

Does Algorithm Analysis and Design consist of any math? because im really baddd with number.

It usually does, but all of CS consists of math. Most algorithm analysis math is pretty standard algebra. For instance, you do a lot of figuring out the complexity of an algorithm using big O notation, which is actually a mathematical formula.

if you plan on moving forward to a graduate degree in CS, you will need algorithm analysis.
