I currently have a BS degree in Industrial Engineering. Ive been working as a designer for the past 8 years designing machinery. Ive always been a "computer geek" and enjoy writing programs for the engineering department whenever i have the opportunity. Im at a point in my life where im looking for change, something different. I am no longer happy with my work. Its hard to change careers when I dont have any experience in the IT field. I did take a C++ class at a local university, made the highest grade in the class. I also checked how long it would take me to get another degree, which would around 3 years given the course schedule.

Is it worth going back to school to get a BS in Computer Science? Are
there any certifications that I can take instead?

    Just looking for some comments/suggestions/tips.

    Thanks

Well, if you can afford it, you may want to take one year off as a sabbatical and go back to school. This way you can see if school is right for you. After that, if you still want to go for that degree, you can do it part-time and/or online. Education is always good, and I would encourage it.

I am thinking of getting a CS degree too, though probably for different reasons than you.

Another thing to add ( added to my original post) is that I am 32 years old, if that makes any difference

I'm almost 50, and I am thinking of another degree too. Anything else?
