is a computer science degree considered a scientific one and accepted as such when applying to study other technical disciplines (such as if a Computer Science graduate were to apply for Mechanical Engineering)?
thanks...........

I don't know whether or not it is considered as scientific degree, but IMO it is ok to apply for mechanical engineering but would would have a lot of problems with mathematics in engineering field.
ye thats pretty much what I have found so far...................
the more hardcore universities in the UK have a much larger maths content but unless you are heading in that direction anyway you might get left behind because of a lack of mathematics......
In short, computer science is indeed considered a serious scientific field. Not everyone who gets a CS degrees is a serious scientist, however.
Whether grad schools will look at your degree as worthwhile or not depends on your university. In general, a computational and mathematical background looks very good if you branch out into other programs.
As far as mechanical engineering goes -- yeah, make sure you have a solid math background. I and a lot of my classmates are double-majors in CS & math. That pairing equips you for basically anything.
Siggy
Computer Science is a type of bachelor's degree, usually awarded after three or more years of collegiate study in computer science.Computer Science degrees is mostly mathematical and theoretical foundations of computing.
