Thread: DATA MOVEMENT HELP!!!!!

hey guys i really need your help!! This question was given to me as a take home exam for introduction to computers class, and is way over my league!! I have spent the entire weekend trying to find the answer on the web with no luck, or at least with non i can understand. does any of you think they can help?


3. Computers often move data from one storage area to another. For example, the operating system often pages data between a hard drive and memory, copying the data into memory so that a program can be executed. We have also seen that the hardware (processor) moves data between memory and cache. Why is software (i.e. the operating system) in control of some of this data movement and the hardware in control of others? Is there a pattern in terms of how much data is moved, where it is moved from or moved to?

This is exactly the same as one of abigshithole's questions. Are you two in the same class? If so you could pm him and see what he has found.

From the look of it it's the exact same class, yeah. I doubt I can get in touch with him in time however... I've already been able to find answers to the rest of the questions, but that particular one has me stumped.

Any thoughts on where I might find an answer?

The only thing other than pm abigshithole, that i can think of is googling "computer storage, harddrive vs software" Now I am going to assume that this is a college class, you might also try talking to the professor first thing in the morning. And if I were you, I would still pm abigshithole, sorry I rally like to say that name out loud when I type it. Anyway, that all I can think of right now.
