I need help with my computer science homework. It's a very important assignment, and I'm having trouble w/ the following questions...

    (1) Why can't programs written for MAC work on a PC (or the other way around)?
    (2) What are the advantages of 64-bit machines over their 32-bit counterparts? What are the disadvantages? What technical hurdles did the hardware designers have to overcome in changing from 32-bit to 64-bit architectures?
    (3) Computers often move data from one storage area to another. For example, the operating system often pages data between a hard drive and memory, copying the data into memory so that a program can be executed. We have also seen that the hardware (processor) moves data between memory and cache. Why is software (i.e. the operating system) in control of some data movement and the hardware in control of others? Is there a pattern in terms of how much data is moved, where it is moved or moved to?
    (4) If 5 processors cooperate on a calculation (1 control processors +4 processors performing parts of the calculation), the calculation almostnever runs four times as fast. Why?
    (5) Pipelining allows a program to run faster by starting the FETCH phase of one instruction (instr2, for example) when the previous instruction (instr1) has completed its FETCH phase. However, there is a danger with pipelining; instr2 may depend on the results of instr1, and the needed result will not be written to memory until the end of the STORE phase, well after instr2 is expecting the data to be in memory. There are a number of ways of dealing with this problem. Describe one in detail.

I know its a lot, but any help would be GREATLY appreciated,
    Thank You.

Did your computer science class come with a textbook? The index will likely yield the results you need.
