does anyone know of any reliable curve fitting software/programs? i have been using MS Excel solver for some time now, and realise that it is highly unreliable, in the sense that its outputs differ when i vary the input parameters, give pre-assumed values to the variables, etc. sometimes the 'fits' are so absurd that even my own trial-and-error guesstimates give better fits.

    any comments will be appreciated!

MATLAB has several built in functions. However, the best curve fits come from calculations by hand.

My suggestion is to get a math program, like MATLAB, and to put the data in that. Then choose a curve fit approximation you think is appropriate, and code that into MATLAB if it is not a built in function.
