Well, I downloaded this JDK 6.0, or what version it now was, to my desktop and ran the installation program. However, I haven't got any icon or anything neither in the meny, nor on my desktop so I don't know how to start the program.
    Any suggestions?

    what is there to start?

JDK is a java development kit not an IDE. If you want to use command prompt open it up from Run then type "cmd":

C:\Users\USERNAME>cd \*location of your java files. mines named "javaprgm*
    C:\javaprgm>path C:\program files\java\jdk1.6.0_16\bin;%PATH%

this is assuming you have windows and you saved the JDK under program files.

now, you can open notepad and program, then save it as *file name*.java
    ex: HelloWorld.java

once you create your program, you can compile it by typing:

    C:\javaprgm>javac HelloWorld.java

if you have no errors....then run it.

    C:\javaprgm>java HelloWorld

then you will see your message or program.

The again, if you dont like cmd prompt, go download an IDE from online.
I have been using JCreator LE its alot easier than messing with command lines.
