Hello!!! Is there anyone alive here?
i'd say the computer subforum is probably one of the least populated parts of the science forum
+ i'm not sure if there's enough IT geeks amongst our members to be able to help you out - i can't, and i design webpages and construct databases for a living
Designing websites should not be considered as computer science.
Yes , the forum is very dead and i feel so sad about it. Does anyone sees a way to raise it from grave ?
that was shorthand for creating applications that feed data into SQL databases, constructing the appropriate data structures for fast-loading webpages, and building dynamic webpages based on live data held in the databasesQuote:

So you do the same thing I do then. I work mainly with ASP.NET / C# these days. My background starts with assembly language for x86 and Motorola processors in to Basic, Pascal, C , C++ , VB, ASP, PHP, MySQL, MSSQL, and now .NET 3.5 C#. Toss in some Javascript as well.
more or less the same here - started off on Basic, then skipped after an interval doing other things straight to VB and Java, followed by ASP, PHP, javascript, MSSQL and now ASP.NET C# (which imo is just MS jumping on the object orientated bandwagon when they saw the inroads Java was starting to make)
IT isn't necessarily computer science, although they're related. Not everything about computer science is really about computers, nor is it entirely scientific according to some people's opinions.Quote:

The same goes with programming as well. I myself am a computer science undergrad, and only know three languages. I guess that I could learn the other languages, but they don't focus on teaching you programming in my classes (although, it would help).Quote:

Best of luck with your quest for knowledge. It's unfortunate that this sub forum is so dead, I suspect you need a more specialized forum dedicated to more exact topics. Such as a C++ programming forum. The term computer science tends to cover many different topics and not really be indicative of programming alone.
i suppose this forum is too generalised for your purposes
if you have a problem in a certain area, and no-one of our members has expertise in that area, then we're all out of luck
if i have language-specific problem then i must admit that i don't post it here - instead i post it on DevShed, where each specialism has its own subforum with its own moderator(s)
i must admit though that the general atmosphere there is less relaxed and tolerant than this forum, but provided you stay on-topic and don't play the prima donna if you're being told off by one of the old-timers then you should be ok
Just make a post that's titled something like "God is a computer" or "Computers rid our need for God" or something else with a questionable religious statement. That ought to get more going on in here.
Actually I think part of the problem is that since it's an uncommon forum people don't even check it when there are posts.
All this talk about what is or isn't computer science yet it seems none have given their own definition. So what is computer science? Hardware? Software? Programming? Internet? Electronics? Physics? Chemistry? Philosophy? Robotics? AI? etc?
All at once? What's the textbook answer to this?
as i've stated under "site feedback", computer science is advance plumbing
