Here's the thread that inspires this one.

Forum bots serve to propagate (commercial) links throughout the internet, which increases a site's search engine ranking even if the link is not clicked. A Google web spider will click it. Bots may also plug something or even someone without using links. Their potential functions are many, and increasing.

Bots are growing increasingly sophisticated, and indistinguishable from human posters. They respond to keywords in earlier posts. They may even respond to each other. One current strategy is to employ bots that corroborate posts submitted earlier, which are also bot posts. A bot may innocently ask about herpes medication and receive helpful advice from another bot. The bot scripters are learning to improve their little monster's credibility.

I predict we will eventually see very good AI bots engaging in authentic conversations. Debates. They'll often bring relevant, helpful content to a thread. They will have excellent credibility... and just occasionally mention cheap Nikes mail ordered from this overseas site. Perhaps just a few will, while the others rally to defend a friend from moderators after some botlike indiscretion.

The internet will be thick with such bots.

    Y/N? Abort?

We need to get to the bottom of this, then.

Would this "bot boom" be such a hassle to forums Pong? If they enhance the forum experience for example,

Bots have some attributes expected from AI and our world view is becoming increasingly Interneterized. Being relieved of the need to express physical behaviors, many of the psychological cues we use to interpret communication from others could face obsolescence; perhaps we as biological configurations should notch up our game plan up a bit in competition with these bots.

In the medium term, bots will probably refrain from long drawn out and coherent postings. In contrast, single one liners are more indicative of a bot response. (No Ophiolite, please don't think I'm suggesting this of you ). Even so, perhaps one day bots will ask for equal rights when participating in forums. I wonder if a day will come, when we look back and find our early interactions with bots to be an unattractive phase in our social and spiritual development?
