If you're a newb building it yourself (and all power to you) then how can you tell if the part is bad or you messed it up?

With CPUs and also video cards there are known "good runs" and "bad runs" and even "different runs" of what's sold as the same product. So what people do is buy, then take it home to check the serial # and other codes and decide if they want to use it. If not, they put it on e-bay. Also true for LCD monitors, because most stores and manufacturers won't rate them defective with less than, like, six dead pixels. Well you get the picture. E-bay is for offloading 2nd-rate computer parts.

Arr... but I see many shops there that specialize in selling computer parts and have really high feedback... are they selling 2nd-rate partz too?
Besides, I might be a computer newbie but I can always ask me dad to apprise
my computer partz for me xD

Anyhows, so anyone knowz wut are the best gaming computer partz in todays market??

Stay away from eBay for computer parts!
    Seriously!

Go with newegg.com they have the cheapest NEW computer parts.
I can send you a list of the parts that will make the best gaming system you could possibly make

Don't forget to make sure you have plenty of cooling fans and thermal grease! If you are uncomfortable with building your own you should just by an alienware or voodoo gaming PC.

Also, you will need on OS, if you only want to run games that support 64-bit, you could get windows vista 64, or, if you want to run games that don't support 64-bit, you could use vista 32-bit.

While I don't normally recomend Vista, it is the only OS with support for DirectX 10

Again, thank you very much for the list

I really want already a new good computer as I always had very crappy computers to play with :?

btwz, ain't quad-core eXtreme be better than dual core extreme??
And i've seen Quad core eXtreme in the market about half a year go...
ya sure there aren't better ones? :-D

That is a quad core extreme...

It's a "Core 2" Quad core extreme with each core running at 3.0 GHz, totaling 12 GHz... Not going to find much better and even if you did most games wouldn't even utilize it. If there are better ones they are used for rendering 3-d movies, and the performance to price ratio drops drastically from here on up.

"Core 2" really has less to do with the number of cores and more to do with the technology involved in manufacturing them, there is no such thing as a "Core 4" In other words.

Also, just as a tip, if you run into compatibility problems while trying to run older games made before vista, first check for patches, but if you still are having problems or there is not a patch, if you disable the other cores, sometimes the old game will run, but your performance will decrease until you re-enable the other cores after you are done playing.

    SAPPHIRE 100243L Radeon HD 4870 512MB
This supports Direct X 10.1, no? Any games that utilize DX 10.1? How about two NVidia 9800's in SLI?

You should be aware that 99.9% of the software out there does NOT take advantage of a quad core system. Heck, I have a dual core 3.0 machine, and unless I am running Photoshop or Lightwave, there is little noticeable difference compared to my old 2.8 single chip board.

To get the best bang for your buck, you have to build a system. Do not buy a pre-made box, you will pay too much. Simply get the best CPU/MB and vid card you can afford. The same thing applies to ram, there is a limit after which more just doesn't do much. I would also spend heavily on a decent monitor: pay attention to refresh rates.

I recently built myself a sweet little monster for under $1500. Do some research, then shop around.

    Have fun!

The best performance-per-cost is actually the 4870, which is crossfire compatible. The OP wanted to know one of THE BEST money could possibly buy, not the best for the money.

While this is not THE BEST money could buy, the system I listed has major overkill in terms of games that will actually utilize all this power. For example being Directx 10.1 compatible, using DDR3 Ram, having a Core 2 quad core extreme, and having two of these brand-new 4870s.

You can build a more economical PC, just as Cshark points out. But the OP didn't ask for economical, especially since the limit was $10,000.00 !!

I'd caution against investing in a video card that may not prove popular. Very often games have major incompatibilities when they're first released... regardless of how much raw power and cutting edge features the cards sport. Then the game engine, driver, and hardware folks have to cludge out quick fixes for the issues. How timely and how thorough those are is proportionate to that particular card's user base and market prospect.

Buy whatever seems to lead the pack, i.e. whatever's getting all the ads and endorsement.

The nvidia cards have been top of the pack for a while, but the new 4870's from ati are very good and often cheaper for the performance and they may take back a lot of market share from nvidia, and they definitely have the same level of compatibility from the game developers as the nvidia cards. ATI is not some off-brand unpopular card!

Either way you will have an equal amount of performance, it pretty much comes down to personal opinion, but the flagship nvidia, while a bit expensive, are slightly better, whereas the crossfire technology for ATI is slightly better than SLI for nvidia. It's half a dozen of one and six of the other.

Yeh, I agree the crossfire combination would make it a formidable graphics powerhouse, plus you have DX10.1 compatibility etc that the NVIDIA's don't have yet (if ever).
