Too risky or a great way to kit our your lab?

No problem buying lab equipment on ebay. Most of the time those are surplus from old labs and often time not even used. Go for PayPal if you want to make shure. Bought some stuff on ebay (working vakuum-pump that goes down to 0.05 mbar for 40€ including S&H etc.) myself. If you know what you want you can buy an electron microscope there, no big deal.

Yah I think it's ok to buy on ebay just make sure it's a good one. You can like arrange a meeting to see the instruments.. You don't want to go burn down your lab right?? Lol
