Hey, i know this sounds sort of silly, but can anyone tell me some interesting experiments i can do with chemicals found in a household?

    thanks!!

You can take a bottle of diet coke and drop a few Mentos in it....just be sure to be looking directly down the bottle when you do.

I think diet coke works best. You get the best fountain that way.

There are a couple of others I know...but they involve stuff exploding, and we don't post stuff like that here....for safety's sake.

You can mix any household cleaner with "elbow grease" and get a clean bathroom.

anyways... what is the chemical reaction happening between coke and mentos? and the equation if possible?

I think it's a combination of things (according to mythbusters) It mostly has to do with nucleation...small pits on the surface of the mentos allow the dissolved carbon dioxide gas somewhere to form bubbles...so most of the gas gets released all at once. Although one of the more scientific guys could probably explain it better.

Ok, heres the list of hellish diabolical uber explosions that I have compiled over years of screwing around. WARNING: YOU MAY DIE.

Just messing with you...and the admin.

Ummmm, just do a google search!

I'll tell you about a cool effect though....mix potassium nitrate with sugar and ignite.....smoke bomb, lots and lots of smoke. Don't get near it though, its pretty hot, which is what allows for so much smoke.

Talking about explosions, last week I went to install a washing machine for someone and noticed that their waste pipe was blocked. They handed me a bottle of powdered drain unblocker (with danger hydrogen sulphide written on it) ......... anyway.............. i poured some powder down the drain pipe, then i poured some hot water down, then i poured some more powder down and then.....boom! - the whole thing spat back up at me, I was lucky enough to run fast enough, but also I saw sparks flying out of the top of the drain pipe. Does anyone have any ideas what the hell happened ?

    Thanks.
The hand of time rested on the half-hour mark, and all along that old front line of the English there came a whistling and a crying. The men of the first wave climbed up the parapets, in tumult, darkness, and the presence of death, and having done with all pleasant things, advanced across No Man's Land to begin the Battle of the Somme. - Poet John Masefield.
