I'm another crime writer looking for facts about explosives, specifically blasting caps.
    This is my scenario:
Some guy is murdered when a blasting cap is placed in his mouth. Now if you also placed something like a bunch of marbles in his mouth, with the blasting cap in the middle, what kind of damage would be done?
Also, I know fuse-lit blasting caps are out of date, but are they still accessible at least some place?
What about remote-control detonators? You have the blasting cap, and the wire trailing out?
Do blasting caps make a loud noise or are some quiet?
What other explosive type things could be used if blasting cap is not realistic--M80?
    I need alot of help.
    Any info, references helpful.

Yes, all types are still available including the latest which operate pneumatically - by air pressure delivered through small tubes. None are silent, they all make noise.

Your mention of the M-80 type firecracker is valid because most blasting caps are very similar, just slightly larger and more powerful.

Also, they can be purchased by anyone in the various businesses that use them like demolition companies, road builders and quarry operators.
