For a science project i need some ethanol. It doesnt need to be very pure but must be above 70%. One way i thought about is evaporating it out of something like vodka at 78 degrees c and then condensing it. Would this work?
Please correct me if i am wrong.

Yes, it will work, but you need suitable distillation equipment. If you don't have it, the project will be more trouble than it's worth.

But it is not so difficult to buy ethanol. It's sold cheaply enough (are you in the USA?) so you might be able to ask a local store to order it for you. Ask for denatured alcohol. *Or buy it through the mail. Here is a link:

Meths is about 85% ethanol, if you don't need high purity.

We had a demo of distillation of wine in my Chem class last week. I think that a slightly higher temperature won't necessarily hinder anything. Also, there is still going to be some water vapour go through, so if you distill the liquid twice (or more), this would provide even higher concentration. If you have access to a still, you could do this. Do you need all that much of the ethanol?

Just be careful when heating up ethanol, it can be very flammable. Dont blow yourself up!
