I have a small container of solid benzoyl peroxide.

I'd rather not have it, knowing the danger it represents (I am a chemistry instructor at a college), but i don't want to dispose of it... I was thinking there surely must be some good chemistry demos i could do with it.

The only one i know of, however, is the one on leeds.co.uk website involving mixing it with aniline to get a smokey decomposition reaction, which never worked for me... i still don't know why it doesn't work for me but it doesnt.

I know that burning it is quite exciting, but i'm not sure whether the products are hazardous, so i won't do that outside a fume hood, which limits my audience

    Any other ideas?

You could use it to polymerize methyl methacrylate and make a plastic (poly(methylmethacrylate) is plexiglass). This again would need to be done in a fume hood though.

If you want the procedure let me know.

Or you could use it to get rid of acne in your students. Apparently.

haha good suggestions, but i wouldn't dare use in anyone's skin, and polymerization isn't on my curriculum, or particularly exciting
