I did an experiment before which i used massage oil and polystrene . The massage oil felt hot and like burning our skin maybe because of the hot chemical in it eventhough it is not hot in temperature. What happen when the massage oil react with polystyrene ? The polystyrene become liquid from a solid state . It first become like a chewing-gum shape and elastic. In my hypothesis, the polystrene that already react with the massage oil then can become plastic because it really can be a plastic when in solid state back because of cooling process.I dont have the image but just imagine it is like the real plastic. I think the polystrene could change into plastic because they are from the same source which is petroleum. But, actually i still doesn't know what in the massage oil that react with the polystrene . My group discussed and give out hypothesis, that the camphor inside the massage oil react with the polystrene and change the polystrene to plastic. This is caused by the camphor that is a hot chemical. Maybe. I will post the other ingredient in the massage oil later but i appreciate if anyone could explain this better. It can reduce the making of plastic when we can reuse the polystrene to become plastic

    -Hoping for further explaination-

Heartening to know that masseuses think about science as they go about their duties.

It sounds as if the oil is dissolving the polystyrene. If you can provide the composition of the oil, it might be possible to comment further.

But forget this stuff about "hot" chemicals: perceived "heat" on the skin is a sensory effect that has nothing to do with temperature. The polystyrene will be dissolving rather than melting.
