    Hey Yal

So my birthday has just passed and I thought I'd buy myself some new chemistry stuff because I was running low. One thing I've never experimented before is Benzoic Acid. Although at first research it seems a very exciting and versatile aromatic I have made the mistake before of spending money without doing my research properly.

Is Benzoic Acid something an amateur chemist should invest in or is it totally useless to me without expensive equipment and reagents?

what can it do? Anything exciting?
    is it safe?

apologies for what may be a trivial question

Depends on the purpose. Is it to use 'for' a specific purpose or to show recrystallization?

I don't want to demonstrate re crystallization as I've seen it used for, simply just to do fun science is all. Can I synthesise any interesting organic compounds with it? does it react with metals like any normal mineral acid?
