    hello everyone
i have to synthsis a coumarine by the adding 0,05 mol of salicylaldehyde , 0,05 mol of malonate and 100 ml of toluene. then we add 0,5 ml of piperidine and 0,1 ml of acetic acid. we put this in the Dean-Stark so we will have water and alcohol and ethyl 2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carboxylate.
i tried to do the reaction
so this is what i did

so for step 4 and 5, i don't know if it's good or not,, and what the tuloene and acetic acid do in the reaction?

Toluene is the solvent and acetic acid probably helps in protonation steps.
