A lifelong coffee addict, as well as builder of masonry projects, I noticed long ago, that the remnants of my cup of coffee when spilled onto the fresh lime-mortar in my wheelbarrow, turns to a rather ghastly greenish-yellow color!

Can anyone contrive to come up with the reaction here? Mortar contains Portland Cement, sand, Lime (Calcium Hydroxide), and water. Coffee contains God-knows-what. I drink it with a bit of milk in it.

Someone long ago noted, when I showed them this "experiment", that the color produced was similar to that of cat-piss!

    Try it! jocular

Green color? Why do you think they call it lime?
