Apparently there is a difference between heat and temperature. Can anyone please point out the difference/s between the two terms?

Heat is a measure of energy. There are two kinds of heat, latent heat and sensible heat. Sensible heat is seen as an increase in the temperature of some material. Latent heat results in a phase change, such as melting ice or boiling water, but does not change the temperature.
