Watching racing today, and some of the cars are using ethanol. Just wondering which is a better fuel. Is one more explosive than another? Are there any advantages/disadvantages with either? Just curious.

Hydrogen is very explosive, now I have a question on my part, how do they do to contain all the energy produced by the hydrogen, because for as much as I know, hydrogen is REALLY explosive!

Worse part, it's the most abondant substance in the universe!

What they do to contain hydrogen, rather than storing as a liquid or gas (big kaboom! if you get in a wreck), is they have it stored in a hydride, so it is stable.

On the ethanol, I'd go with used fry greace in a Diesel engine. Since that isn't an option, I would go with just plain gas, because you need a high grade of ethanol (90- 100%), and ethanol is not the most effecient fuel. Ethanol is more enviromentally friendly, and you can basically run a car on it though.

to get energy saftly from hydrogen they use fuel cells. it takes the electron of the hydrogen. makes it go throu the circuit, while the H+ ions travel throu the wall to the site where oxygen is, there electrons join with oxygen to form oxygen ions and hydrogen join with with oxygen ions and ofrm water. or something very close to this.

Thank you Zelos. Uncontrolled hydrogen can be very explosive, I know, but with current technology it is possible to totally wreck you car and not have any problem with hydrogen. Anyways, if it caught fire, it would burn and fly up high, high into the sky. In a crash, it has been proven that gasoline is more dangerous than hydrogen.
