Yes it would, but i am scared it might affect your substance... If you want to keep it intact. If you are sure the substance you have is a mixt, you should try to smell it (CAREFULLY by brigning he vapors with your hand to your nose, not actually going to go take a good sniff at it), then you could ake a small amount of your liguid, light a match and make it burn, if you notice the flame goes a little blue, there is some alcool in it.

You could also, if you have a conductometer tes to see if your substance is conductible (lets electricity pass through it) If it is, it is not alcool.

If you have more questions, feel free to PM me.

    I hope this helped you,
    L.E.A.P.

What kind of alcohol are you looking for? It may be able to be distilled off. You would need a distillation column or something similar. I have one on my web site. Yoy can check it out at www.wellstonesolutions.com/forsale.

Well, he could also take a sample and put NaC1 in it and see if it dissolves. If it doesn't, it's alcool

If you are talking about ethanol not the group of chemicals called alcohols, try adding potassium dichromate or potassium permanganate solution. If there is a colour change, it indicates that a primary alcohol is present.

If I recall, there exists an instrument that can determine the ethanol percentage in substances. I don't remember what it's called though, sry.
