That is actually a really good question! I don't think there's an exact chemical that makes things smell "new" but rather, existing chemicals that are involved in the production of whatever item it is. I can't exactly tell you what but if anyone else can, I'd love to hear it!

Cars smell 'new' when one first purchases because they doesn't smell like the combination of body odor, long dead french fries, dust, dog vomit, leaves, leftover mail, flatulence, spilled coffee and all those other things that happen after the purchase. New cars smell like fresh leather or vinyl, carpet, plastic and rubber. Sometimes a bit of wood.

New houses smell like cut wood, paint and carpet. Older houses smell more or less like older cars, and for exactly the same reasons. Go figure.

New guns smell like lubrication, primarily. They will always smell new if one uses the proper lubrication.

New wallets smell like leather, provided they're made of leather. Old wallets smell like butt sweat for most guys. (I carry my wallet in my shirt pocket.)

The universe is a real place. However, you can't see it, you have to imagine it. Like it or not, God designed, built and sustains the Universe. Deal with it.
