Just a question.... a friend of mine was telling me that some company has perfected a process by which they can recycle plastic into oil. He is encouraging me to invest in it but I am kind of wary. I just need to know if this process is in fact on the level. I watched a video about this company and to tell you the truth it didn't reveal any trade secrets and it appeared to be more or less a scam. Can someone set the record straight?

It's possible to obtain oils from plastics by pyrolysis (heating without air). I don't think this is particularly novel, but then converting the oils to useful products might be more difficult. This article mentions a catalytic method. Catalysts can be tricky and expensive.

I was wondering about the expense but it always seems that as soon as a method is discovered then it is usually improved upon, including the cost. I have the feeling that this could be really big but if I think of how green technology is the new buzzword then I wonder if making fuel from plastic makes the world greener... I always think of oil products as environmentally unfriendly. Still it might be worth a short term investment.
