I have been searching the internet for a absorbent polymer that will set into a firm gel. Everything I can find, such as sodium polyacrylate, will absorb many times it's own weight but turns to a jelly like substance. Does anyone know of a compound that will turn into a firm gel when absorbing water, or is there an additive that will allow SAP's to firm up into a dense gel? Thanks for your help!

Yor quest may be self defeating, The compounds in use commercially absorb several hundred times their own weight in water and will invariably form a soft gel material having done so.
