    "At the same temperature and pressure, equal volumes of different gases contain the same number of particles"

    How is this proved?

    I know it is because the distances between the particles are much greater than the sizes of the particles, so the size of the particles don't matter.
    But, doesn't this mean that the distance between particles are equal for all gas?
    Why is that?

    There is a slight difference between gases, but the difference is considered to be negligible and is accurate enough for approximations. I think Avagadro based his formula on a theory about ideal gas behavior.

    Yes, it only applies to "ideal gases."
