I don't need anyone to do my homework for me, I just need help. My teacher gave us homework from a chapter that we have never talked about, I need help understanding it.
Balance the following equations, and identify the oxidizing and reducing agents.
    A) NO2 (-) + Cr2O7 (2-)= Cr (3+) + NO3 (-)

    B) As + ClO3 (2-)= H3AsO3 + HClO

I figure that if someone can explain these two to me, so that I understand, I can get the rest on my own. Please help, I have read the whole chapter and I still cant figure these ones out, and my teacher is out of town and can't help me but the sub is collecting it. Thanx

get the definition of oxidation, and reduction. im going to use the new ones, lol

    oxidation is loss of electrons
reduction is gain of electrons (OIL RIG)

oxidising agent is the substace which brings about oxidisation in a substance. (ie , the reduced substance!)

reduction agent is the substace which brings about reduction in a substance. (ie the oxidised agent)

    are you with me?

can you under stand the rules of oxidising numbers?

Well, I understand the oxidation agent and the reduction agent stuff, and after class on Tuesday, and I found that I was the only one that tried to do the homework, and then after much discusion with the class, all three of us, I figured out how to balance the reactions. But there is another question that I don't get, my teacher even asked us why she assigned it, in an email, but we still have to do it, but I cant remember the problem. I will ask it here when I can find it again. Sorry, and thanks for the help.

The way I learned oxidation and reduction was "Leo the lion says ger"
"Lose Electrons Oxidation" "Gain Electrons Reduction" just thought i'd share that...
