To find how many atoms are in a sample of an element, would it be more reliable to measure the volume or the mass of the atoms? Why? Thanks for your help!

What did your teacher explain to you, or what did you read in your textbook, prior to being assigned this particular homework question?

Really, this isn't a hard question at all, take out your notes and look at how you calculate the number of atoms within a given sample of something, and the answer should be obvious.

welcome to the forum, science726 ...

    more reliable? hmm ...
need some background on the situation first -

Q1. what do you know about volume?
    - what properties do you associate with volume?
    - what units of measurement apply?
    - can volume change? / why?

Q2. what do you know about mass?
    - what properties do you associate with mass?
    - what units of measurement apply?
    - can mass change? / why?

Q3. what do you know about elements?
    - what properties do you associate with elements?
    - what units of measurement apply?
    - can elements change? / why?
