Thread: Electroplating Cu onto Fe nail

    -this lab requires a galvanic cell
    -Al foil must be used and Fe must be electroplated without any external power source

    here's what I have so far:
    -anode is Al (s)(aluminum foil) , cathode is Fe(s) (iron nail)
    -electrolyte in the cathode side is CuSO4 (aq)
    -salt bridge is filter paper
    -H20 or NaNO3 are possible salts for the salt bridge

    -questions:
    -which solution should I use for the anode, Al ?
    -I can't use CuSO4 since there will be a single-displacement rxn before the electroplating process can take place

    you can use cooper cyanide..
