    Hi
I am looking for a device to automatically heat a samle of 3 ml to about 100 'C in 10 min and then cooling to 20 'C.
We have used a PCR thermocycler (Recon-o-stat from MJ or Bristol MAyers Squibb), this is now not working, so we need a replacement. It need not be as advanced, and the precision is not important.

    Any suggestions?

if you wanted to build one quickly as long as you have a DC power source a simple potentiometer should allow you to control the power, all you need then is to measure the temp. of the sample and swap the sides round as to if you want hot or cold.........

an easier way would be to swap the positive and negative wires, then the side that once cooled for example would now be hot......crucial that you have a heatsink on the opposite side no matter what and a fan if you want to increase performance.

please correct me if i am wrong on the simple electronics.................I would like to think I am sure about the heatsink though as I have done work with these myself.
