Thread: Ion absorption

Hi,
Does anybody know how ion absorption process works?
For example,Silicon seems to be able to absorb 3 Lithium ions
per atom.Nanowire battery researches are based on this effect.
If I no make mistake, positeive ions miss at least one electron.
How Silicon after absorption is able to survibe and do not break
apart under Coulomb forces?There seems to be terrible charge
disbalance created?
