I am searching for materials/compounds etc that can be changed quikly between solid and liquid states by a control. (temp, elec, or other).

It must be able to repeat the process without degrading. As an example, water can do what i need in this regard but its performance is limited by the energy cost in its transitional phases. That energy cost must be reduced considerably.

    Anyone have any ideas?

solid to liquid? i was going ot say ethanal, but thats liguid to gas, good thing i reviewed the post.

um, what abouto iodine, it is solid at room tempature, right? and it (acording to memory) have a low boiling point?
what about a catalyst, to decrees the energy requirments?

Why not make actual doors? You could make a molecule that changed shape when prompted by some stimulus to unblock a passage. There are many chemicals that change shape when exposed to different wavelengths of light, for example.
