If you place a silver spoon in a bowl of soup and leave it in there, will the soup cool down quicker.
My mum thinks this is right but I disagree - any explanations

The difference should be unnoticable. Silver is not a magic heat absorbing material, but as a metal it conducts the heat (some of it away from the soup). A minor affect at best.
