Does anybody know what the main neuro-chemical(s) or horomone(s) are that are most closely associated with depression? What I mean is, in those who suffer from depression, what is the chemical that is found in excess while in a depressed state (or is it a deficiency in some chemical)? What about happiness?
Also, is there an online chart listing the neuro-chemicals/horomones most closely associated with the whole set of human emotions? Or is this question too vague? |

Serotonin is the hormone we promote to treat depression, hands down. There is no viable way to administer serotonin, so we use indirect strategies such as making it easy for the brain to produce, or difficult to get rid of.
Elevated serotonin can make a person disgustingly peppy and carefree.
Oxytocin is practically synonymous with breastfeeding, however it is present in both sexes and seems to reinforce bonding, trust, love. I'd speculate that inappropriate levels of oxytocin could contribute to depression, especially postpartum depression. |

Oxytocin is released in the body when people hug
So keep on hugging _________________ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

One of the best techniques I've found to combat depression and melancholy, apart from releasing oxytocin through cuddles and love, as well as getting out into the sunshine to encourage increase in seretonin, is to exercise regularly.
So i guess a good all round solution for depression is to make love, vigorously, and as often as possible, in the sunshine! _________________ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I read that depression usually occurs if one whose hormones are prominent experiences trauma. Mainly because they are vulnerable at that time. I guess I'm at risk. _________________ A biophysicist talks physics to the biologists and biology to the physicists, but then he meets another biophysicist, they just discuss women.
