    Space pirates today.
Imagine if a country with easy access to spacecould plot a path near the ISS or a space shuttle and then either through other means or conventional docking procedure they could threaten the lives of the crew and steal equipment or cargo and then transport that cargo back to their country on earth and sell the goods on the black market.

Course I would never actually consider doing this, just asking if someone does this, would if be profitable?

I think the value of the things in the space station is mostly based on their being located in space. It costs a fortune to get anything up there. A lot of their tools are actually very cheap when you ignore that component - such as duct tape.

Ah yes why how silly of me. What if they stole not just goods but some expensive equipment or small vehicles, maybe they could even steal a US space shuttle and pilot it back to their homeland then either sell it or use it for them selves, there surly would be some profit in that ?

    huh?

Space shuttles don't go to space anymore---so scratch that off your list.

How about holding the ISS hostage for ransom?

Boarding it wouldn't be necessary, since a "drive-by" shooting or anything from a head-on collision to a serious scrape of it's exterior hull dealing sufficient damage ought to be enough. I mean, it isn't like the ISS has any form of turrets in place; or do they?

Edits: Erm, before anyone gets alarmed, this is merely my thoughts on how to "profit" from space piracy. Please don't report me to Interpol.
