Kinda wondering that myself today. I was teaching my son to cross the road safely by screwing up his face into a bug-eyed scowl at the driver facing him, so he could know by their reaction they see him. But what exactly is going on there?

In a very urban environment, I'm often too lazy to turn my head or shift perspective because through reflections in omnipresent glass I can see behind and beside me and sometimes around corners. Not perfectly but well enough. And yes it's a great way to ogle chicks.

Sciler have you read any of Rupert Sheldrakes work?

He's a biologist and has done lots of studies and experiments into psychic phenomena with surprising results.

His well known book is The Sense Of Being Stared At

Funnily enough I'm reading that book at the moment. It's mm..interesting..food for thought and wonder!

Here's some links for a closer look:

I think it's worth baring in mind the element of randomness and time here. Think about how many times you don;t see someone staring at you when you turn round. You turn round enough and you are bound to meet someones gaze, afterall, like you, they are looking at other people as they wait. I think it is common for the human mind to make something special out of something essentially random.

    to me, it's just like:
    "I'll call John"
    *phone rings*
"oh wow, hi John, i was just gonna call you... freaky"
"not really, Dave, we call each other loads, this is bound to happen by chance sometime."

Interesting point. If you think about it, unless we project and can read thoughts, there is no possible way we can 'feel' someone looking at us, yet I imagine most of us have experienced this. Is it coincidence ? IMHO, it is just that.
