We all seem to have some idea about the evolution of the eye since its discussed so much since Darwin but does anyone have a good idea about the evolution of the ear.

I've read it is believed to have originated back when we were fish when gills formed some sort of primitive nose/ear or something bizarre like that (which is why Im asking, that sounded ridiculous!) but can't easily find much information on it.

Yeah I think Id seen that one, I guess maybe not that much is known about it compared to the eye. I do know about the migration of the ossicles (the malleus & incus) from the jaw like in reptiles.
