definitely maybe
If you really like it/dislike it it could happen alright but you'd have to feel quite strongly about it!
What are you asking us for? Measuring your pulse isn't a hard thing to do.
When you see food you like you enter the psychological cephalic phase. Thus your stomach starts producing more acid and you start to salivate. In addition, your insulin levels rise. When this happens you actually get tired and sometimes even confused - the most extreme being hypoglycemia. So if you look at it in those terms yeah tachycardia is definitely a 'side effect' of seeing foods you like! hahaha
erm, sounds like anxiety.Originally Posted by Amy54

why would it initiate a sympathetic discharge??. When we see food, cephalic phase of gastric secretion will be initiated via vagus nerve. That is a parasympathetic stimulation.
Tachycardia requires a sympathetic stimulation or a decrease of parasympathetic stimulation. What causes a sympathetic discharge when we see food.
(of cause if it is related to a frightening memory!! )![]()
The fear center of the brain, amygdala, has projections to the hypothalamus and the brainstem. Through downstream effects on the pituitary-hypothalamus-adrenal axis, tachycardia can easily be elicited.
