I have a general question concercing the first heat of female mammals.
When female mammals come into their first heat, are the males already attracted to them or does it take a while until the males go after them?

In the cases where top males maintain harems we'd have to say "already attracted". But males that go into rut definitely need to get their nads off regardless of finding that special someone. That's typically where males and females only meet to copulate, so these females in heat make themselves easier to find with pheromones.
