    Morning all.

Long time lurker and in-frequent poster.

Every year I task my students with a presentation. This is to assess their research ability.
They then get to give me a random topic as well.

I was first here 2 years ago - Presentation on Parasites
and you guys were awesome and I still talk about the Emerald Jewel Wasp and the Liver Lancet Fluke

This year the maturity has dropped somewhat and I have the topic of nipples (another group has given me peanut butter - the guys at Skippy have been most useful)

So, is there anything "exciting" about about nipples I should know?

My passing knowledge would be mammals, lactating/suckling the young and Robert De Niro going "I have nipples Greg. Could you milk me?"

Any help or other directions to search in would, as always be a massive help.

    Regards

    Mark

"Why do males have nipples?" is quite a good way to explore some issues in evolution and development.

    Yeah.

I've got that down as a question to be answered.

One of the questions my girlfriend posed was "Do Dolphins have nipples?"
Apparently they do. Located near the anus...

Knowing how kangaroo's handle this. They have nipples in their pouch.

Which mammal has no nipples? Platypus obviously.

But yeah, why men have nipples? Same genes, and having nipples isn't activated or deactivated by hormones, or by the Y chromosome.
Growing up, i marveled at star-trek's science, and ignored the perfect society. Now, i try to ignore their science, and marvel at the society.

Imagine, being able to create matter out of thin air, and not coming up with using drones for boarding hostile ships. Or using drones to defend your own ship. Heck, using drones to block energy attacks, counterattack or for surveillance. Unless, of course, they are nano-machines in your blood, which is a billion times more complex..

I recommend the VSauce video, perhaps titled 'Why do men have nipples'. Apparently, we were all female at first, as fetuses, and that's why males also have nipples. You could crib from there, or even show it and use it as a departure point to class discussion. I regret that I can provide no link for you. I am in China, and we don't get Youtube here.

Also worth noting: if you watch the famous fight scene in Spock's Wedding, you will observe that the shirtless Capt. Kirk has no nipples! I blame 1960s prime-time censorship, but perhaps an email to William Shatner is in order.

I am curious to know how it came about that you have to give a presentation on nipples. Were you playing truth or dare and didn't want to admit you've never actually seen anyone's nipples in real life?
And what does the Lord require of you but to love justice, to be merciful and to walk humbly with Him?

I'll give The Shat a tweet

The students get a random topic from me - Batman, The Prius, Star Trek etc - and then they decide on one.
In the past I've had grass, cabbage, the NWO, The Bermuda Triangle and then some more "risque" subjects.
They chose a sexual topic that I'd already covered a few years back, so they panicked and said "Nipples" - who knows how a 16 year olds brain works.....

When it comes to nipples you should probably make two main points.

    1. In regard to epidermal features, nipples deliver a stand out performance.
    2. It is important to keep abreast of current developments.

Also, avoid milking any of the more obvious puns.
